When you’re hunkering down at home, nothing hits the spot quite like a plate of buttermilk biscuits covered in delicious sausage gravy. Made with ingredients you’re likely to already have in your fridge, this Pork Sausage Gravy Recipe is easy, flavorful and kid-approved!
Like most of us right now, I’m trying my best to keep my grocery store visits to a minimum (and use curbside pick-up when I do!). I sort of love the challenge of “shopping” my fridge, freezer and pantry to come up with meal ideas. With all of us eating at home three times a day, I’ve been trying my best to find meals that everyone likes AND use ingredients efficiently.
Pork Sausage Gravy poured over fresh hot biscuits is just the thing for times like this!
Pork Sausage Gravy
Pork sausage is by far one of my most utilized ingredients for cooking big family meals. I just about always have breakfast sausage on hand because of how easy and versatile it is. We love how it tastes in a Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole, and I’ll often toss it in Easy Sausage Pasta or a cheesy soup for a quick dinner.
Breakfast sausage is already seasoned and ready to cook. When you’ve been cooking a ton at home and your spice cabinet is rapidly depleting, breakfast sausage is the way to go (for any meal of the day).
Of all the ways I like to cook with pork sausage, Biscuits and Gravy tops the list when it comes to comfort.
Biscuits and Gravy Recipe
For as long as I can remember, Biscuits and Gravy has been a special meal in my family. It’s our traditional family Christmas breakfast, and we always make it when we meet up each summer for mini-family reunions. My Dad and I are the ones who do the cooking, and I always value that special time in the kitchen.
While my dad and I might not be able to cook this meal together right now, I love the warm and cozy feeling those memories bring. So at a time when we are all craving comfort food, Biscuits and Gravy hits the spot!
How to Make Pork Sausage Gravy
Pork sausage gravy is so easy to make in just one pan. That’s a big bonus right now because three meals a day at home means dishes pile up faster than you can say “pork sausage.”
You only need three ingredients to make a good sausage gravy: milk, flour and sausage! Add a little salt and pepper, and a pinch of paprika if you’re so inclined, and you’re good to go.
How to Make Gravy
To make the gravy, start by crumbling and browning the sausage in a skillet. Sprinkle flour over the meat, stir to mix it all together and then add the milk. Stir constantly until it gets thick and bubbly then serve hot.
Pour over hot-from-the-oven homemade Buttermilk Biscuits to complete this satisfying comfort food meal.
Gravy is a great way to stretch any leftover sausage you have from other meals, too! This Biscuits and Gravy Recipe is extremely filling and perfect for a big family breakfast. It’s also a delicious dinner option. Who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner?
Oh, and this Sausage Gravy is delicious on so much more than just biscuits! Try it on savory waffles, potatoes or even simple slices of crispy toast.
Biscuits and Pork Sausage Gravy
When I’m making this Biscuits and Gravy recipe for a special occasion, I always opt for homemade biscuits. However, if you’re pressed for time or all you’ve got is a can of refrigerated biscuit dough, don’t let that stop you from making the gravy. Ready to bake biscuits still taste good with this gravy. And yes, you can still count this meal as homemade if you don’t make every single element from scratch!
Right now, cooking with pork has been a lifesaver! Everyone in my family enjoys pork dishes and I’m thankful for so many ways and methods of enjoying this favorite meat. We enjoyed this Maple Brown Sugar Pork Tenderloin for dinner earlier this week and I’m already excited to make another batch of biscuits and gravy this weekend.
Dig that sausage out of the fridge, grab some milk and flour and get ready to enjoy a steaming hot plate of delicious Biscuits and Gravy!
