Apple Bread
If your family loves all things apples, then print this recipe and get ready for smiles. A ribbon of cinnamon apples goes into the bread, and the loaf is finished off with more cinnamon apple goodness on top. An optional drizzle of glaze at the end turns this simple quick bread into a decadent dessert. This is definitely more of a dessert bread, almost like a pound cake, then a light and fluffy sandwich type bread.
How To Make Apple Fritter Bread
Making this recipe is simple and straight forward. The most timely part of the process is prepping your apples, as it is with most apple recipes.
Ingredients
With common ingredients, you might already have everything you need to whip up this recipe. When it comes to apples for baking, my top choices are:
- Granny Smith
- Jonagold
- Golden Delicious
- Honeycrisp
- Jonathan
- Braeburn
- Pink Lady
I specifically avoid using Red Delicious when baking, as I personally am not fond of the texture once baked. But that’s a matter of personal opinion. Here’s a quick glance at what else you’ll need (full recipe found at the bottom of this post).
Instructions
Here’s a quick glance of how you make this bread. First, a bread base is mixed together, and diced apples are mixed with cinnamon and brown sugar.
Next, the bread mixture is layered with batter, apples, batter and topped with apples and more cinnamon and brown sugar.
You can see how simple it is. I recommend not making the bottom layer of batter too thin, as the apples will sink some due to gravity. Go for a thick layer of batter on the bottom.
After baking, the bread can be drizzled with a glaze if desired. That’s all there is to it!

Apple Fritter Bread
Ingredients
Bread
- 1/3 cup brown sugar tightly packed, light or dark
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon, divided
- 2 medium apples peeled & diced to approximately 1/4"
- 2/3 plus 2 tbsp granulated sugar, divided
- 1/2 cup butter, softened salted or unsalted is fine based on tastes
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare a 9" x 5" bread pan by spraying liberally with non-stick cooking spray. In a small bowl, prepare cinnamon sugar mixture by combining brown sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon and mixing well until combined. Set aside.
- Prepare apple mixture by combining diced apples with 2 tablespoons sugar and remaining teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix until well combined then set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine butter and 2/3 cup sugar and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well blended. Add in vanilla and mix until well blended. Add flour and baking powder to the mixture and stir by hand until well blended. Add in milk and mix until combined and absorbed but do not over mix.
- Scoop slightly more than half (approximately) of the bread mixture into prepared bread pan. Sprinkle half of the apple mixture over the batter. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apples. using a knife, gently swirl the mixture into the batter*. Repeat process with remaining ingredients.
- Bake in preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan, on a cooling rack, for 10-15 minutes, then gently run a knife around the edges of the pan to help loosen the bread from the sides. Invert and remove from pan.
- To make glaze, combine powdered sugar and milk and stir until smooth. Drizzle over bread once removed from the baking pan.

Very nice apple Fritter Bread – the only complaint that I have – saying that PREP time is 15 minutes —- how fast can anyone peel and dice apples in less than 10 minutes leaving time to prepare the batter, etc…………….
Phyllis D Goelz says
This turned out very good for me, even though I forgot to swirl in the apples on each lever:) BUT, I do have a question. The recipe doesn’t mention what to do with the 1/2 cup of milk in the Bread portion. I got everything in up to that point, and then just added the milk at the end until it was a consistency to my liking. Was I supposed to do something else with it?

Whoops, that was just a typo, I had mix where it should have been add milk. Fixed! The challenges of working while helping the kids with school š
Rakhi says
Hi I love your recipes but can u please tell any replacement for eggs in apple bread
Christi Johnstone says
Rakhi, I don’t use and am not familiar with egg replacements, eggs are not something my family avoids. I’d suggest using whatever egg replacement you have found works well in baking other recipes.

This is the second time I’m making it. My husband loved it. I’m trying it in a bundt pan this time because my loaf pan it too small. Thanks for great recipe.
