It was a long weekend.
And not in the let’s have an extra day off and have lots of fun weekend kind of long weekend. More like wake up sick Thursday night, end up in the ER Friday, spend all day Saturday asleep and spend Sunday trying to wake up. Still trying to wake up really, but on the mend.
On the let’s find a bright side version of the weekend, Sunday did allow my daughter and I to watch entirely too many episodes of Once Upon A Time, which we started watching a few weeks ago on Netflix (oh my heck, it’s so good – how have I not watched it before now??? My tween and I love it!). It is also good that I was sick this weekend, and not next, as I’ll be in Seattle next weekend – that would not have been good. And the other bright side is that I actually had four recipes made and photographed for the week, something that is entirely unlike me. Heck, that alone should have indicated that I was feverish! So despite a long weekend where I accomplished less than nothing, I still have recipes for this week! Yay!
This cookie is one my mom used to make. Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies. These delicious cookies are very similar to traditional chocolate chip cookies, except for a few changes that make a big difference. In place of much of the flour, you use graham cracker crumbs. In place of the eggs and some of the butter and sugar, you use sweetened condensed milk, and there is coconut! They are reminiscent of Seven Layer Magic Cookie Bars!
Okay, I know coconut is kind of a love it or hate it thing, so if you are on the hate it bandwagon, you could try and leave it out, though I haven’t tried to so I can’t speak for the results. The results of this combo of ingredients is an incredibly delicious and chewy chocolate chip cookie.
These are a really fun twist on your regular chocolate chip cookies. I think it’s nice to have a variety of go to cookie recipes that you can count on, and this is one of mine. Seriously, chewy cookie lovers, you need to try these.
I think my mom originally found this recipe the same place that she found most of her recipes, on the label of a package, most likely a can of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk. That is where so many amazing recipes can be found. I even have a cookbook made up of entirely recipes that came off of packages.

I made these cookies for a neighborhood cookie swap years ago and they were an absolute favorite! They remain a favorite of mine to this day! I would even suggest to those “non coconut” lovers to please try it. It truly adds to this recipe and is not overwhelming at all. Love this delicious cookie!

My friend of over 30 years use to make these cookies and she said it was a secret recipe from her mom-in-law and would not give out the recipe. Over the years I would reflect on them and wish I could have made them. A few weeks ago I contacted her and asked her if she would give me the recipe. Finally she said of course and that she had found it on the back of the Eagle brand can milk. I was thrilled so I looked it up and found your recipe for them. I made them today and Oh My Goodness…just as I remembered them…D’licious!!! 🙂

Could I put olive oil instead of butter and
almond/coconut condensed milk instead?
Christi says
Jackie, I have’t tried so I can’t say how it would turn out. My instinct is that it probably wouldn’t turn out as well.

Yuuum! I love everything about these. I’ve been meaning to start Once Upon a Time but – and I know this is going to sound really pathetic – I’ve been too lazy to set up the Wii in my room so I can Netflix. Ugh!

Oh that sounds so terrible. Glad to hear you are on the mend now. And looking forward to meeting you here in Seattle next weekend!

Ugh – I hate weekends like that when you feel like you deserve a do-over…of a different weekend!
These cookies look like just the fix though!
