- Chicken Wings – Fresh Chicken Wings is ideal for this recipe. You’ll want to cut them up into drumsticks and flats with the tips removed.
- Honey – The key ingredient to getting that beautiful glaze. Regular honey is fine, but if you like a little spice, hot honey would make a great substitute.
- Butter – Use salted butter for this recipe. If you only have unsalted butter, just add a pinch of salt to it. You’ll need it to brush the wings with, and to add to the sauce, so make sure you measure the butter accordingly.
- Garlic – Freshly minced garlic is always ideal, but you can use the jar stuff instead. I don’t recommend substituting for garlic powder, because honey garlic seasoning will be used, but you can if you need to.
- Soy Sauce – This will add the perfect amount of salty to balance out the sweetness of the honey. You can use regular soy sauce, or low sodium soy sauce. You can also use coconut aminos or Tamari, but this may change the flavor a bit.
- Honey Garlic Seasoning – I used Frank’s Red Hot Stingin’ Honey Garlic seasoning, but you don’t have to use that if you find something else. You can find this blend at Walmart, or online. If you can’t find any at all, you can just use a garlic seasoning blend.
- Optional Garnishes – These are completely optional, but you can sprinkle the finished wings with sliced green onion and toasted sesame seeds.
Step By Step Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. While that heats up, pat the wings with a paper towel until dry. Brush the wings with 1 tablespoon of melted butter, then sprinkle them with the honey garlic seasoning. Rub the seasoning into the wings as best as you can. Place them in the air fryer, but don’t crowd the basket. Air fry the wings for 7-9 minutes on each side.
- While that cooks, start on the glaze. Add the remaining butter to a saucepan and melt that down. Add the minced garlic to the butter and let that simmer for a few minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant. Next, add the honey and soy sauce and stir until combined. Let that come to a low simmer to thicken which will take 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Take the wings out of the air fryer once finished, and check that the internal temperature has reached 165°F. Place the finished wings in the saucepan and toss until the wings are evenly coated with the glaze.
- Place the coated wings back in the air fryer for a minute or two until the wings become slightly crispy and charred on the sides. Take them out of the air fryer and garnish with green onion and sesame seeds. Serve hot and enjoy!
Tips and Advice
Storage – You can store the leftover honey garlic wings in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. If you want to reheat, just throw them in the air fryer at 350°F until heated through, or for 10-15 minutes.
You can also freeze these bad boys, just pop them in a freezer bag and they’ll be good for up to 3 months. Just thaw them out in the fridge before reheating in the air fryer.
Frozen Wings
You can make these using frozen chicken wings if you’d prefer. Pat the frozen wings dry and add the seasoning as well as a teaspoon of baking powder to the frozen meat. Cook them according to these instructions on how to cook frozen wings in the air fryer. Take them out once done, and toss in the honey garlic sauce. Pop them back in the air fryer for a minute or two and they’re done!

FAQs
I personally like the texture that only an air fryer gives these wings. However, if you want to bake these you absolutely can! They’ll taste just as good, but won’t be as crispy. If you’re okay with that, then pop them in the oven and get ready for an incredible meal!
This depends on the size of your wings, and your air fryer. A good amount is anywhere between 5-7 wings at time. If you want to make more than that, you can cook them in batches so you don’t crowd the pan.
Serves Well With
If you don’t make these as an appetizer, you can serve them as a meal along with some carrots and celery as well as ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce.
A few of these side dishes would also pair wonderfully alongside these wings:
